VASM and in 5.9.1 SOLVED
« on: October 05, 2008, 11:39:10 am »

Hey folks got a quick question. I updated to 5.9.1 about a week ago. Works great except for vasm and vasmcc. When i point and click form the menu it loads up. When  I click on say lilo nothing happens. Same as with vasm. It loads, then say  I click on users for example it just reloas the menus. When I load either from command line I get this:

<code>
localuser:root being added to access control list
vector://home/chuck1
root:# vasmCC
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
<code>

that repeats until I close the root shell.

Same thing with vasm
<code>
localuser:root being added to access control list
vector://home/chuck1
root:# vasm
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
bad string content
<code>

5.9.0 ran like a champ, fast stable and wife and kids like it. 5.9.1 runs the same except for vasm, vasmcc and well Firefox. That is no biggie, I use Seamonkey more.

Any Ideas? Can I uninstall vasm and re-install with out borking my system. I do like it, I love showing it off to some windows sysadimns. Thier comment is you Linux guys have all the cool tools that actually work!.

Thanks
Chuck

You may find some answers in this thread...

Also you should have no trouble reinstalling vasmcc.  I had a similar problem after a system upgrade and a reinstall fixed it.  That was on VL5.9 Gold though.

I have been following your progress in the vasmCC-1.0.12 thread.

Thought I would do an install of my own of Vector Linux 5.9.1 to help you out.

My vasmcc is working ok here so I took some pictures for you to compare.

This was your last post there, was this...

Thanks for the tips. I opened /usr/share/vasmCC/  via Konqueror (kdesu konqueror) and also in command line. I may be doing this incorrectly, but  I opened  /usr/share/vasmCC/filesystem and it displayed the following icons.Ithen right clicked and choose open with Kwrite, and got this:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Mount Partitions
Comment=Mount partitions at boot time
Exec=/sbin/vmount
Icon=/usr/share/vasmCC/icons/hd.png
Terminal=false
Next I went to /usr/share/vasmCC/user
and choose vuseradd.desktop, and as before opened with kwrite and this is the output:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Add User
Comment=Add a new user
Exec=/sbin/vuseradd
Icon=/usr/share/vasmCC/icons/vuseradd.png
Terminal=false

 I then opened vasmCC in terminal and clicked on user, then add user. The terminal  gave the bad string output, and the vasmCC popped open the "Login name  for the new user"

I tried to add one of my son's, (brian1) and terminal response was "bad string content", and a window popped up saying this:
Gtk-WARNING (recursed)**.Icon cache /usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache' is invalid

Hopefully this gives you some idea of where to point me to correct this.
Thanks for your time.

Chuck

Take a look at the picture I took of usr/share/vasmCC/icons

Yours should look like this as well.  It is were those other .desktop settings are looking for the icons they need. It appears as if they are not finding them.
If your file for usr/sharevasmCC/icons does not look like the picture then that may be part of the problem.

Your description of the other files seemed to be the same as mine, but let me know if you would like pictures as well

(Do you think you just may of had a bad burn.  I can't think of a reason vasmCC would be trouble right after install.)
