Yes, but made no difference.
I've managed to get live CD's of Puppy, Slackware, Kubuntu, DSL, Knoppix and Fedora to boot into a GUI.
I managed to get VL to boot in text mode and manually start X, which worked fine, desktop as normal and all apps i tried working ok. But the machine is going to be used by an old person who would find manually starting X each time daunting.
VL seems like it's trying to automatically start X, but just can't quite get there.
