VL Light 5.9 on IBM Thinkpad 1161 boot issues.
« on: October 09, 2008, 03:58:09 pm »
I've got an old IBM ThinkPad 1161 (celeron 500Mhz, 64mb Ram, 10gb HDD) and decided to put VL on it.
Using a CD to install as there's no ethernet port or floppy drive.
Default install wouldn't work but after adding the vga=792, acpi=force, irqpoll and idebus=33 parameters it installs 100% and goes for reboot.
Lilo loads ok, but VL hangs at the metallic loading screen. I left it overnight thinking it might just be because it's a very old system, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Yes, but made no difference.

I've managed to get live CD's of Puppy, Slackware, Kubuntu, DSL, Knoppix and Fedora to boot into a GUI.
I managed to get VL to boot in text mode and manually start X, which worked fine, desktop as normal and all apps i tried working ok. But the machine is going to be used by an old person who would find manually starting X each time daunting.
VL seems like it's trying to automatically start X, but just can't quite get there.
