Will check into the "dev" issue, thanks for testing.

Hi
I installed siag for my 5.9 light to check it but got the above mentioned font error..no time to download the ispell and font packs as looks like 18 odd meg..

.is it possible to extract the helvetica font required and package as a dependency during install?

do the included fonts work when helvetica is added? or does one need the whole font pack to get some alternative fonts to helvetica?

gatta run
cheers

I'm running on Alpha 0.12 now and I'm likeing it more and more. One thing you might want to pass on to the powers that be is they need to update the IPW3945 firmware. What is delivered doesn't work.

I'm going to answer this here because I don't have the moderator privileges to move this to the proper place.  This thread is about 6.0 alpha, not SIAG on 5.9 Light.

The SIAG package for 5.9 was built for Standard before Light ever came out.  Standard includes the required fonts.

The Helvetica font is a standard part of X.org.  The decision to exclude it from Light was, IMHO, strange.  I will not be breaking it out into a separate package.  That makes no sense at all.  ispell is required to have spell checking work but it isn't a dependency per se since the software can run without it.

In other words, if you want to use SIAG, install the packages that are needed.  18MB is only an issue if you're on dial up.  Yes, you really do want more than just Helvetica.  You really want all of the Adobe bitmapped fonts for your resolution, particularly for PW.

Running alpha 0.12.  Hosted instal (vinstall-iso)l went smoothly.

The hang up at Performing Coldplugging during boot is down to about 1 minute.  It's a lot better than 10+ minutes under alpha 0.11.

Need to check wireless and report back.  Installer correctly detected my card but it I can get my Atheros 5212 chipset to work with ath5k it will be a first.  It hasn't worked on other VL builds, Zenwalk, or Ubuntu.  I'll let you know.

I really don't like the militaristic default wallpaper.

I haven't had much time with this system yet.  More when I've had a chance to do more testing...  First impression is positive though.

Firefox refuses to run on alpha 0.12.  It crashes very quickly and very consistently.  The same package worked just fine on alpha 0.11.  I'll try ripping it out and reinstalling again with a fresh profile before giving up.  Other browsers (Opera, HV3, Netsurf, Dillo) work just fine.

You're right. It won't even run for me when using package from repo.

I downloaded the official firefox-3.0.3.tar.bz2 file from mozilla.com and that one seems to work fine. Would you try that too?

Sure.  It might be late tonight or early tomorrow.

The firefox-3.0.3 package that Vetcor built has an inappropriate dependency in slack-required anyway.  It should be rebuilt using exteredad's script that also builds all the language packs.  I don't know if and when I'll have time to do that but I think that's the best approach moving forward.

Yes, the oficial tarball does work for me.  I have no clue what the problem is with Vector's package.  I'm building a new package now as well as the language packs.  We'll see how that goes, I guess.
