Slow pings and netstat after motherboard replacement.
« on: October 03, 2008, 10:44:35 am »
I recently swapped an ABit NF7S with an Asus AV600 motherboard, same processor and peripherals. I had VL 5.9 SOHO loaded on the hard drive. I reran vasm hardware detect and everything seems basically fine. Browser, ftp and Internet "for the most part" are fast as ever. The correct NIC module is loaded, ifconfig looks good and all seems ok.

The strange thing I have noted however is when using the ping and netstat command I get VERY slow responses - in fact almost 5 seconds between pings (not 5 seconds to the server but 5 seconds between indivicual pings) and port checks, although it does ping correctly. I cannot understand this behaviour and I see no error messages anywhere in the logs to indicate anything wrong - but this is certainly not normal behaviour.

Does anyone have any idea where I should begin to hunt down this problem?

Not familiar with the hardware, but it sounds like a hardware conflict (ethernet card/port vs motherboard), or an IP address range problem. I had the same happen when two machines were in different ranges.

Then again, you may want to look at good article found at:
