rbistolfi has packaged gnutls 2.6.1 for VL 5.9 and VL 5.9.1.  Please note that this is a security patch and bugfix release.  If you are running an earlier version you may want to upgrade to this package (see caveat/warning below).  As soon as we have adequate testing reports it will be moved to the patches repository assuming all is well.

FAIR WARNING:  This package is expected to break a number of packages which depend on gnutls.  We are asking the more adventurous testers to help out the packaging and development teams by installing this package and telling us what breaks.  Every effort will be made to get new packages to replace the broken ones ASAP so that VL users can secure their systems.  Packages we are particularly concerned about include pidgin, amsn, and vlc.  There are probably others.

Package:  gnutls-2.6.1-i486-1_slack12.0.tlz

Broke printing for me.
When printing a test page, cups said:

I don't see anything in your error messages that points to tls or ssl so this one really makes no sense.  Did you just install gnutls or did you upgrade cups as well?  Did you make any other changes?

This was when printing a test page in cups.
I upgraded again, same error. Downgraded, it worked.

Putting cups in debug mode tells us something:
Quote
D [16/Nov/2008:03:04:00 +0000] PID 5239 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops) exited with no errors.
D [16/Nov/2008:03:04:00 +0000] [Job 76] /usr/bin/gs: error while loading shared libraries: libgnutls.so.13: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
D [16/Nov/2008:03:04:00 +0000] Discarding unused printer-state-changed event...
D [16/Nov/2008:03:04:00 +0000] [Job 76] Running /usr/bin/gs -dQUIET -dDEBUG -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dNOMEDIAATTRS -sDEVICE=cups -sstdout=%stderr -sOUTPUTFILE=%stdout -c -
D [16/Nov/2008:03:04:00 +0000] [Job 76] /usr/bin/gs: error while loading shared libraries: libgnutls.so.13: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
E [16/Nov/2008:03:04:00 +0000] PID 5240 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster) stopped with status 127!

So it seems that gs is the problem (needs to be recompiled?)

Does indeed break Pidgin and cups, haven't noted any other problems, but haven't tested extensively as I need printing on this box, so I reverted to 1.6.3

Pidgin complains about missing ssl support;

Cups:
Kde complains about missing library libgnutls.so.13
Test page from commandline seems to work however
Code:
lpr /usr/share/cups/data/testprint.ps

EDIT: Upon further investigation, printing works from everywhere as far as I can tell, but the KDE control center doesn't play nice. (KDE 3.5.9). The problem isn't cups, or the cups admin interface, since adding printers from commandline or webpanel works perfectly. Symlinking the new libgnutls to libgnutls.so.13 fixes the kde CC problem
Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.26 /usr/lib/libgnutls.so.13
