Burn ISO with Vector Linux 5.9 Light.

I installed Vector Linux Light yesterday, and then downloaded an ISO overnight (slow connection so an ISO takes all night) and then this morning couldn't burn the ISO.

I am logged in as root, right clicked on the ISO image --> used Vburn ISO option, then the cd whirrs in the drive, then nothing after about 30 seconds, no output, nothing.

There does seem to be other window managers available, I am only using the default at the moment:

How can I change from the default to LXDE, perhaps it will have better ISO burn utility?

Hi Merps.

Other wm do not have other burning utilities. Anyway, to change your wm, you should click on 'Session' button on the login screen.

in VL I always use bashburn, I don't know if it's in the repos, but installing it is easy anyway...  I haven't tried any other burning utility since I discovered it.  Stable, clean, fast, and console

Check That the iso you downloaded is complete, maybe a bad .iso file .  If it's your case, take a look at wget -c , it'll save you hours of downloading on a slow (dialup) connection

I tried different session managers and they all resulted in the same apps and desktop as the default.

Can you please provide details as to how to setup and execute bashburn? I am almost certain the download is good to go at the moment.

You may need to manually specify a driver to use. Check this table: http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt and see if you find your drive listed.

To specfy driver, run "vburnconfig". When it asks you if you want to specify a driver, answer yes and type it in. I have had good luck with "generic-mmc-raw".

Launching vburn (or tburn) from a terminal is a good way to see errors that may occur.

Then execute bashburn from a console. choose the burn iso option.  It will throw
an error telling there's no iso in /tmp/CantRememberDir .

Place your iso there and retry.

Hey thanks for that, however, I found that the light version was almost a suitable package for old pcs, but missed it by that much for novice Linux users, probably great for experienced users who know how to circumnavigate the hiccups.

That said I downloaded the full version and it works ok even with only 64 MB ram, the browser does seize every now and then but you would expect that with such small Ram, and hey its got full functionality and acceptable speed, and I can burn CDs.  It has got to be close to being a windows killer.
