Seamonkey not seeing internet
« on: November 18, 2008, 01:46:30 pm »

I've just installed VL5.9 Gold.  uname -a
Quote
Linux compaq.linux.net 2.6.22.14 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Nov 25 19:27:11 MST 2007 i686 Pentium III (Katmai) Genuine Intel GNU/Linux
I've set eth0 to 192.168.0.2 gateway 192.168.0.3 (a Win98 running ICS)
There is another VL5.9 at 192.168.0.1 named Human with which I am on the internet as I write this
all three machines can ping each other
pyNeighborhood on compaq can open the shares on both the other machines
Seamonkey just tells me

www.vectorlinux.com could not be found...
Human had no trouble getting on when I moved the Wireless Broadband modem from it to Win98.
Both Linux machines are using SeaMonkey 1.1.7
Googleing brought me a lot of links about downloading and installing - especially to Windows - or  adding modules
And I wasn't able to find any thing relevant in man
I have been unable to figure out what I've missed. ???

What about DNS?  How do you have that setup on Human, and how does it compare to Compaq?  Can you ping www.google.com or www.vectorlinux.com?

ping www.google.com
ping: unknown host www.google.com

Finally looked at etc/resolve.conf and found nameserver 64.13.40.5 was missing on compaq.  Added it and SeaMonkey now finds vectorlinux.com.

Thank you so very much for your help.
