Ran through the root passwd and user very carefully, but still ended up with the same error.
Was unable to run the script you suggested 'x11-fonts'.
I ran the closest resembling script 'x11-fonts-7.2-noarch-2vl59'
and you were right. It started the x-server without a problem.
So what the heck am I doing wrong during the gui set-up?
I think I'm making the same mistake with my other machines during install but they seem to boot just fine, but display other problems sometimes. (May not be related, I guess..)
I'm going to play with this a bit. Feel like I'm learning something.
I will post on the distro development thread anything I find that might be usefull.
