toothandnail,
Ok, perhaps I jumped to the wrong conclusion. Here is more detail:
CD booted on 3 different machines with intel chipsets, no need to detail those.

These machines pause at boot from CD, then continue as tho the CD were blank:
MB1: ECS PT800CE-A
2.0 GHz Intel Celeron, 1 GB ram, IDE via VT8237, Award bios 01/19/03, DVD/rw K hypermedia DX082D
MB2:  ECS k7vta3
1.7 GHz Athlon-XP,   512MB ram, IDE via VT8235, Award bios 04/01/05, DVD/rw Sony DRU-800A
MB3: Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra
1.7 GHz Athlon-XP,   512MB ram, IDE via VT8235, Award bios 01/19/03, DVD/rw Samsung SH-S182M

Again, I have created the md5sum by acutally reading the CD, on each of the via machines,
and they match the published md5sum. Proving each via machine is not faulty.
I constantly play with various distros, and have multiple drives and partitions on all machines,
with various distros installed.

If I can provide any more info, or run an experiment to solve the issue,
Let me know.

We think we have nailed down the no boot problem some are experiencing. We should have a new beta1.1 iso up soon for those with this problem to try in the next day or so.

cheers,

THanks Vec. Thats what beta testing is for!! I am still a Slackbased distro noob, but a few years of Debian have helped. Maybe by the time I figure out XFCE, I'll not need to buy the next SOHO!! Smiley

Beta 1.1 is up
Very small chages:
added missing font rendering packages
this should help with bad font rendering
rebuilt ISO
this should fix ISO not booting some machines

the delta is available for those that still have the iso on HD
you put it in same dir as iso and run "xdelta patch VL6.0-STD-B1toB1.1.delta"
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-6.0/iso-release/VL6.0-STD-B1toB1.1.delta

Sorry guys;  I checked the checksum twice burnt it twice, but I can not get this one to complete installation to the system step in the Gui.

Stops on 'Installing vlnvidia-6.0-x86_64-2vl60.tlz...'

Hope someone else has better luck.'

You do indeed appear to have fixed the boot issue so well done for that but as stretchedthin says the installation gets stuck at 61% installing vlinvidia-6.0-x86_64-2vl60.tlz...

I used the adding the delta to my original download and the md5 checked out so I'm not convinced downloading a fresh iso will help although I may give that ago tomorrow.

Just out of curiosity... when it's failing for you guys... are you doing a full or custom install?

Beta 1.2 is up
even smaller changes:
Fixed packages file now all packages should install

very small delta is available for those that still have the iso on HD
you put it in same dir as iso and run "xdelta patch VL6.0-STD-B1.1toB1.2.delta"

NOTE: I POSTED THIS HERE BY MISTAKE. I meant to post it in Distro Development. Please do not post replies here, as I have reposted it in Distro Development.

I tried to sync my Sony Clie using JPilot. No luck. No error messages at the command line when I launched JPIlot as root or user. I discovered that pilot-link wasn't installed. So I installed that with G-Slapt but I had the same results.

I've been using the instructions posted by Joe1962 for a few years and they've always worked. I also added a 03-local.rules to /etc/udev/rules.d, as required for VL 5.9 and presumably later, which I got on this forum from derrell. Tomorrow I'll reboot the computer and see if things go better. But for now, I can't sync my Ciie, which is a major problem for me.

B1.2 iso fixed boot problems on all my machines. No more via problems.

I am assuming this is the place to post problems with this iso. If this is wrong, or too much detail, just say so.

Tried the new installer, actually did the FULL install to hard disk ok.
Got to the 'Kernel Boot Options' , I entered "vga=791", clicked next.
Popup error message said this was an error, closed that, was moved to "Regional Settings' page.
I clicked 'Back' to remove the "vga=791", did so, clicked 'Next', and 'Regional .. was skipped, went to 'System Admin'.
I enter root password ok then tried 'Back' again, to get to the Regional.
System locked up. 'Back' and 'Next' were both greyed out. Clicked 'Exit installation', to get a blank gray screen.
Finally found left mouse click ->Quit->reboot. Started All over again.

2nd try, things went well until screen with message "No ethernet device found" (VT6108 Rhine-II in this case).
I continued, went to end, rebooted ok into new install.
Using vasm the net card was detected ok, configured ok.
Tried every means I could find, even manually editing xorg.conf, could not get X to run.
Error message always:
"Fatal server error: could not open default cursor font 'cursor'. "

curtdodds is having the same problem I reported earlier here http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=7838.msg53692#msg53692

We are both missing some fonts that the x-server is looking for that is related to our machines. The link below may explain more.

I dont think you are missing fonts.
If you run "cd / && sh /var/log/scripts/x11-fonts*" it will fix the problem.
this is ran in the BG while you are setting up root passwd, user, etc.
I think somehow you guys are exiting before it finishes.

Ran through the root passwd and user very carefully, but still ended up with the same error.
Was unable to run the script you suggested 'x11-fonts'.
I ran the closest resembling script 'x11-fonts-7.2-noarch-2vl59'
and you were right.  It started the x-server without a problem.
So what the heck am I doing wrong during the gui set-up?
I think I'm making the same mistake with my other machines during install but they seem to boot just fine, but display other problems sometimes. (May not be related, I guess..)

I'm going to play with this a bit.  Feel like I'm learning something.

I will post on the distro development thread anything I find that might be usefull.
