The VectorLinux development team is proud to announce the Second beta release of VectorLinux 6.0. We have worked hard to debug the first beta release based on reported bugs, and we have also refined the look and feel with a brand new theme. The gui installer is just about there more feedback is welcome with this release. We have added several software packages to make this a complete release. We are on our way to final!

The big news is Vector has a new gui installer for the first time! This was built from the ground up and not a rehash of any of the other gui installers used by other distro's. This release features the 2.6.27.7 kernel with the latest wireless drivers and firmware updates. The default Window manager is Xfce4 with LXDE as alternate. We have the latest Firefox, Opera and Seamonkey with all the media codecs and flash so all the web and personal media content is available out of the box. For light office work you will find Abiword and Gnumeric. For heavy duty work, OpenOffice is available as a download from our ever expanding repo. We have added jpilot for those of you  with handhelds. The included multimedia applications are the latest Mplayer, Xine, K3b and vlc. We have some of the all time favorite games including Penguin command, Pysol and Xgalaga and many more available in our repo. The latest stable Perl 5.10 has also been added. We hope you enjoy our latest labor of love. Please let us know of any bugs you encounter or just general feedback by posting in our web forum.

Cheers,

The Vector Team

Installed it only on VM, just to check my installer translation.
Looks very good.

By the way, why don't we add sbopkg - a command line utility to download and build packages from slackbuilds.org?
It's only 33K and is very useful - www.sbopkg.org

Hope every one had a good holiday.  Like a bad penny, I keep turning up.

I'm installing 6.0B2 over my 5.9 installation. All went well UNTIL 'System Configuration/Boot Menu Options/Boot Manager Configuration'.  On clicking 'Next', I get a pop-up"

Embarrassed Pulled the tape and installation proceeded without hitch.

While I was importing/adding users, the screen didn't fully refresh, ie; 1/4 of the previous boxes showed slightly above the current ones.  Also, it only imported one user and failed on the other 2.  And it would NOT let me add a user without a password!

@StrayBit:  Beta 2 was superceded by Release Candidate 1 which is much, much nicer.  Also, when reporting issues/problems please use the bug reporting thread.  That way the developers see it for certain.

Thanks!

Thanks Caitlyn.  I dl'd this one as soon as it was announced, but it was a few days before I gave up trying to get 5.9 to work and installed it.  I'll try again.

I've been working with both 6.0 Standard, 6.0B1, and 5.9 (which was my first) and when I saw that B2 was released, I hurried my opera-using behind over to the link and unfortunately got a 404. I backed up just to the iso-release dir and saw this:

Quote
VL6.0-Light-Final.iso                              31-Mar-2009 22:09  617M
 VL6.0-Light-Final.iso.md5.txt                      31-Mar-2009 19:50   56
 VL6.0-STD-Gold.iso                                 18-Feb-2009 05:43  700M
 VL6.0-STD-Gold.iso.md5.txt                         22-Feb-2009 04:48   53

That's all that's in there for VL6-anything as of April 5th, 22:45 EST. *all sad*

EDIT ADD: I've also noticed that doing any google search on VL6.0-STD-B2.iso will return a ton of links but most of the sites don't have the file anymore so it's looking like it got pulled.

Can't wait to try it out thought!  Grin Grin Grin

Hi
any reason you want the bata2 version..the std-gold version is a final release and if you like vl6 you should try the final...it usually goes alphas, batas, rc(release candidates) then std-gold as a final..the alpha and bata versions are usually test candidates for the system...perhaps you were wanting to try all the steps along the way to the final...anyway give vl-6-std-gold a try sometime

the bata versions of vector are usually very good..I have the bata3 for vl light and it is so good I often forget it is a bata...anywho

cheers
