Hi, hope someone can help with the following.

I haven't used Pidgin for a while. Today I opened the program to be greeted with the following error: "SSL support is needed for MSN. Please install a supported SSL library." The same error was reported for Gmail too. My Yahoo account works fine.

It seemed very strange so I rebooted into my test installation and installed Pidgin to see if it would work. I got no errors and all three accounts worked fine.

The only thing I have done recently is to install a few security updates (Thunderbird, Firefox, libxml2, cups, gnutls) so I can't guess what has changed to cause the problem. Any ideas?

I'm running VL5.9 Gold with XFCE desktop.

Thanks
Andy

if you upgrade gnutls, you need to rebuild everything that depends on it, like pidgin.

I am rebuilding pidgin against the new gnutls pkg. Anything else causing problems?

No other problems so far thanks. My fault, I didn't follow the link from the Security Advisories to the Package news and updates section (where it says there might be a problem with Pidgin) so I inadvertently became one of the "more adventurous testers" asked to help find out what breaks. Glad to be of assistance  Smiley

Is there any way Gslapt could be made to check which programs might be affected when you plan to upgrade a library?

What I do is check the REQUIRED lines for the apps I use more. That will tell you what are the dependencies of the software. This lib is used for data encryption over the network iirc, so anything networking related would be something to check, like ftp software.
