All

I want to install VL 5.9 on an old laptop (Gateway 9100) which will not boot the CD.  The machine has 128 MB RAM and is currently dual boot with Win98SE and an existing Linux.  I want to overwrite the existing Linux.  The obvious way to do this is to boot the CD installation from Windows using "loadlin" but the .bat file which comes with the CD does not work.  The kernel boots up and then panics because it can't mount the root file system, presumably the RAMdisk. I copied the "loadlin.exe" and  "linux.bat" files, plus the "sata" kernel and the "initrd.img" file from the "isolinux" directory to a folder in Windows.

I am sure that not much effort is going into maintaining this option and it may just need additional memory allocated to the RAMdisk or some such thing.  Does anyone know how to make this work?
