toothandnail has packaged testdisk, a partition and data recovery suite, for VL 6.0.  He adds:

"Warning: I originally built this to fix a dead Windows box, which it did very well. However, testdisk is potentially dangerous, and, since I do not use reiserfs, has only been tested with xfs. No warranties are given - if you break it, you own both halves. Use at your own risk....."

Just used photorec (part of the testdisk utils) to recover a "lost" .pst file for Outlook. It recovered 33 potential files and several were "corrupt" such that after running scanpst.exe there was no data but it did recover the lost file. I was able to run this as a user (vs. root).
