toothandnail has packaged testdisk, a partition and data recovery suite, for VL 5.9.  He adds:

"Warning: I originally built this to fix a dead Windows box, which it did very well. However, testdisk is potentially dangerous, and, since I do not use reiserfs, has only been tested with xfs. No warranties are given - if you break it, you own both halves. Use at your own risk....."
