I've built the latest version of GNU Aspell, an international, multilingual spellchecker.  Aspell is enchant compatible so it can be used with AbiWord.  This package is just the spellchecker.  Dictionaries are packaged separately.

Package:  aspell-0.60.6-i586-1vl60.tlz
MD5:  722f5bb7968371e0c1aa5d0ae331ac4b
Package Size:  576K
Installed Size:  3170K

Sources: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-6.0/source/testing/libs/aspell

Code:
aspell: aspell (international spell checker)
aspell:
aspell: GNU Aspell is a Free and Open Source spell checker.  It can either be
aspell: used as a library or as an independent spell checker. Its main feature
aspell: is that it does a superior job of suggesting possible replacements for
aspell: a misspelled word than just about any other spell checker out there.
aspell:
aspell: License: GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL), Version 2.1
aspell: Authors: Kevin Atkinson (kevina@gnu.org)
aspell: Website: http://aspell.net

After testing this package please stop back at this thread and let us know how it works for you.

Found a problem with this one.
old pkg has /usr/lib/aspell new has /usr/lib/aspell-0.60
The aspell-en dictionaries are still in /usr/lib/aspell.
I fixed it here with:
Quote
mv /usr/lib/aspell/* /usr/lib/aspell-0.60/ && rm -r /usr/lib/aspell
ln -s /usr/lib/aspell-0.60/ /usr/lib/aspell

uelsk8s: I used plain vanilla source directly from GNU.  It seems to me the answer is to rebuild the aspell-en package.  I'll do that as soon as I can.

Update:  I checked where aspell-fr and aspell-he installed on my system and it is /usr/lib/aspell-0.60.  That appears to be the standard now.  So... this package remains as is but a new aspell-en package to match this version will be posted by this evening.

I am wondering if all existing packages will find aspell now.
It may be best to add a symlink from /usr/lib/aspell -> /usr/lib/aspell-0.60 in This package just in case?
can you test some older pkg to make sure symlink is not needed?

AbiWord finds aspell just fine.  I'm not sure of any other apps to test that actually use aspell.

I believe the difference in location is because Slackware did something non-standard.  I believe so long as apps can find the aspell binary (which hasn't moved) then the binary will, in turn, find the dictionaries.  I can add the symlink but I am not at all convinced that it's needed for anything.

The revised aspell-en package is now in the repository.  Thanks for working with me on this.
