I've noticed that, in the VL 6.0 RC2 LXDE desktop, there are a fair number of items in the main menu that don't do anything when clicked. It appears that software is somehow showing up in the main menu when it is not installed. Anyone else seeing this?

This question belongs in the RC2 bug thread, not here.  In any case for an item to appear in the menu there has to be a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications.  That comes from the package when software is installed.  So... your conclusion that the software isn't there and that the applications are "bogus" is incorrect.  There must be another reason why the app doesn't appear to run -- either the application is crashing and you can't see it unless you run from a terminal or else something is preventing it from running.

For anyone to help you with this we'd need to know which applications specifically are problematic and what errors (if any) you see launching the same app from a terminal.  My advice would be to post again with that info in the rc2 big thread.

Well I can say your not all wrong.  Where I've noticed it is in openbox.    Amarok, Rhythmbox, the full openoffice suite etc.    I switched to lxde to take a look and I'm not sure why, but mine seems about right.  There are somethings that don't launch like opera, and inkscape, but those are because of other issues and don't launch on the xfce side as well.

There was a bug in RC2 involving libqt.  It should be fixed in RC3.  The apps weren't bogus.  Rather symlinks were missing for the library they depended on.
