Newbie, how to install software not in the repositories [SOLVED]

I am fairly new to slackware and would like to install Open Office on a VL 5.9 machine. I did download OOo_3.0.0_LinuxIntel_install_wJRE_en-US.tar.gz from the OpenOffice Website. How would I go about to install this software on my VL machine?

Actually Ewald, the best way to install OpenOffice in 5.9 would be to look under your XFCE menu for "GSlapt". When you press that you'll be asked for the root password. Enter that and GSlapt package manager will come up.

Once up and running go to "Edit>Preferences>Sources" and make sure the "Extra" repo of 5.9 VectorLinux is enabled. Press the "OK" button and press "update". Then simply scroll down through the list until you find "OpenOffice.org". Select it and press "execute". Depending upon your connection have a coffee or whatever as it does take a bit to download and install.

When finished---Bob's your uncle!---you'll have OpenOffice 3.0, the newest and greatest! And free of charge. Isn't life wonderful?!

EDIT #1: Hmm... I kinda like that nick-name now that I've signed off with it! LOL! I haven't been called "Uncle" in many, many, years! My grandchildren don't even call me "grandpa" for that matter but instead "Ada", an Arabic colloquialism of the same meaning. LOL.
