Hi,
just installed vl5.9.1 soho final

checked wifi with lspci

I see
02:00.0 network controller pro/wireless 3945abg network connection

modprob ipw3945  returns "fatal module ipw3945 not found"

I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thanks!

Check and see if the module is "iwl3945"

ran modprobe iwl3945 got no errors.

ifconfig still does not show the ethX card ( just the wlan0) and /sbin/ipw3945d still gives
"error opening /sys/bus/pic/drivers/ipw3945: no such file or directory"

looking in /sys/bus/pic/drivers/
i see iwl3945
but dont see anything like iwl3945d in /sbin.

arrgh!

Thanks for looking this for me!

ipw3945d and therefore iwl3945d is not used anymore. I have the same wifi card in my Lenovo. With the new driver the card registers as wlan0.

You also need to have the latest firmware. Look in /lib/firmware and see if the file iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode is there. If
it isn't, google for it and you will be able to get it from Intel. Things should start working then.

Edit:

That pup is harder to find than I remembered. Get the file here...
http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/?n=downloads&f=ucodes_3945

get version iwlwifi-3945-ucode-15.28.1.8.tgz

Glad you got connected. I kinda beat my head on the wall on that for a while myself. Someone else will need to help on the wpa question. It might be a good idea to start a new thread for the wpa.

Gamfa,
Thanks for your help, I don’t know how long I would have had to beat my head against a wall before I figured it out!
