I have a VL 5.9 installation on a 8.7 gb drive recognized as hda. I now istalled a second harddrive which is recognized in the bios correctly and as hdb in the dmesg output. However, it's not listed under devices. There I only see /dev/hda1 but no hdb.
What am I missing?

You need to mount the drive to be able to access it.

In VASM there should be an option to add a mount point (I do recall the wording)
use that to add the hard drive.

What VASM will do is add the drive and all needed information to /etc/fstab.

If the drive needs formating you can use cfdisk /dev/hdb

Using mount -a (as root) will also show wether the drive is mounted or not.

fdisk -l will give a list of all the partition information.

The vasm method will set it up to mount the drive during boot

Ok, did that it worked. Had to logon as root and change permissions so that every user can access the drive and created a shortcut on the desktop and in the file system sidepane.
Thanks for your help.
