tried to install RC4 on a 800mHz Athlon machine with 512mB Ram. Everything went fine until the very end, when being asked to restart the system. Screen gets messed up and Computer remained frozen. Upon powering down and restarting the boot goes multiuser, gives me a "setting up message bus FAILED" and hangs at setting up hald position. After a while I get a terminal login prompt. I can login but I can't start the x server.
I reproduced this behaviour twice. I am not Linux savvy enough to troubleshoot myself.

On my 1.3 Ghz  Celeron, YouTube  and Flash videos played in Opera are jerky. About every 10 seconds there will be a short pause, which makes it difficult to watch a video. I played a YouTube video directly from youtube.com on Firefox and there were no pauses or choppiness. I had attributed the problem to the low specs of the computer compared with the 64-bit dual core computers, but I now realize that's not so because YouTube and Flash videos under Firefox were okay.

I don't know what happens on the 64-bit computers, as I haven't played many videos. Will have to try some and see if Opera has the same problem there.

I finally was able to print. I copied the printers.conf over from VL-5.8 which shows
DeviceURI usb://Unknown/.

Using printers.conf from VL-6-Light and which works there which shows
DeviceURI hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_67b_2305_noserial_if0_printer_noserial
does not work in RC4.

In RC4 I am unable to configure my printer connected to USB port since the USB Device does not show when configuring with localhost:631. That did show in VL-6-Light.

Sorry for the delay in posting this.  I DL'd and installed the latest RC4 a week ago on a PIII 500 and a PII 750 both with 256MB.

Installation:  exception (similar to below) on exit from adding users.

Reboot:
VASM/Hardware config - cannot be used while x is running (that's also in 5.9)
  VASM/Utilities
Quote
This application has raised an unexpected error and must abort.
[-1] Unable to load image
Mfiles.?.0
VASM/Service/Cups:  unable to mount Epson Stylus C60 which 5.9 did

And, unlike 5.9, root CAN NOT have screen saver.  I know!  "You must be crazy!"  I've known that for years  Grin

Also, after fighting it for 5 months in 5.9, I've decided that the only way I can share files among all my PC's is to keep a Win9x running!  ( I may even have to move the printer to it!
