AMD 64: newly installed vl 5.9 RC2.
I get an error message trying to update the package/extra/patch list with gslapt.
The firewall is not enabled and no matter which mirrors I select I just get a 'cannot connect to' or 'cannot update' error (I forget the wording).
I must have something fundamentally wrong here as Firefox works fine but the attempts to connect to the mirrors are really slow before they quit altogether.

Code:
:# slapt-get --update
Retrieving package data [http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/vectorlinux.com/VL64-5.9/patches/]...Failed to download: HTTP response code said error
Retrieving package data [http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/vectorlinux.com/VL64-5.9/extra/]...Failed to parse package data from http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/vectorlinux.com/VL64-5.9/extra/
Sources failed to download, correct sources and rerun --update

Edit: The Sticky on VL mirrors ,,,the link gives me an error.

Is that VL 5.9 Standard RC2?  SOHO RC2?  VL64 5.9 alpha2?  All of those are long discarded development releases with known problems.  You need to be on a final build of 5.9 or 5.9.1.  The only current release candidate is Vector Linux 6.0 RC4.

I am trying to get a 64 bit version so I guess I'm out of luck.

You are not out of luck.  VL64 5.9 was abandoned, yes.  There is a VL64 6.0 that is currently at alpha-0.9 and it's getting good reports for an early development version.  You may want to try that.

Having said that, yes, you are correct that Vector Linux has not had a 64-bit final release yet.
