request for picaxo
« on: January 20, 2009, 12:03:14 pm »
Here's another interesting program it might be nice to have a package for, picaxo.  http://gigi.nullneuron.net/comp/picaxo/
It's a very fast, lightweight picture viewer.  You can use it in combination with xfe or other file managers that let you spawn outside programs to quickly view pictures on your machine.  You can also view a graphic at a specified URL.

Thanks.

I'm trying to compile it and it has some deps I'm having troubles with...

The package itself seems discontinued (4 releases in 5 days) and does not have any makefile system nor install system.

For the moment you can try feh (a very lightweight image viewer too).  feh for 5.9 is in the repos and feh for 6.0 should be there in few hours/days.

--EDIT--
M... I think I messed something with libs.... I'll build it when I reinstall my system, so it'll be some days/weeks in the future.

Am running VectorLinux 6.0 Light B1.  Didn't need to install any SDL libraries.  Just used what came with the distribution.  Used the picaxo-27.03.2008-20.41.tar.gz source and decompressed and untarred it.  Did a cd to the directory it was in.  Did a cd to the src directory below it.  Ran make -f makefile.  Did a cd up one directory and over to the bin directory and executable was there.  Appears to run fine.

Is there anything I can do on my end to help put together a Vector Linux package for this?

Thanks.

To build a VL package you need to script the installation process.  Sample scripts are on the Packagers' Boad which you will need access to.  You'll also need a vectorcontrib account as well.  Send a PM to JohnB316 through the My Messages link here in the forum.  Tell John I sent you.  He'll get you setup.

I've downloaded the picaxo source and I'll have a go at building a package.
