texlive
« on: February 06, 2009, 04:35:49 pm »
I tried to compile texlive but I'm a bit puzzled about tetex/texlive differences, and IIRC we could only have tetex xor texlive in the repos.

Suggestions?  I think we had that in 5.9, could 5.9 packager repackage it for 6.0 ? I can't find slackbuild in the repos :(

Thanks!

I think tetex is no longer maintained, so texlive would be a better choice.
But one of the issues with texlive is that it is huge... Currently it's several gigs in size, even compressed.

I suppose it is possible to only put the essential parts in a vector package, but am not sure how a user would go about extending it.

I find downloading the dvd from the website to be more practical... because you can always run the setup program and change configuration issues, as well as removing and installing package blocks. Plus, you only get one release per year, so no need to go through that often.

I was the one who packaged tetex for VL 5.9 for the MMBD. The buildscript and such was actually quite complicated, but if you need it, I can upload it all to my contrib.
