I went to Audacity's site and they have packages for several distros but nothing Slackware-based. I don't even really know how to use Linux yet, let alone compile it, so if anyone would like to, the source code is at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/sourceI think Audacity is an awesome little sound studio with lots of capability, and it's free. No fair that the Red Hatters and Ubuntors should have all the fun.

If you get the latest Audacity Beta 1.3.7 working on VL6, let me know. I couldn't get it to work on VL5.9 but it may work just fine on 6.

Audacity uses wxGTK. Are you going to stick with wxGTK 2.8.8 from the Vector 6.0 repository or use the latest 2.8.9 (SlackBuild for it here: http://slackbuilds.org/repository/12.2/libraries/wxGTK/ ) ? Am curious because I'm trying to get another wxGTK based application built and am not sure which version of wxGTK to use. I did start to try compiling wxGTK 2.8.9, but after 8+ hours and it was still compiling (I have a very low resource machine), I gave up on that. Just curious what route you're going to go with the wxGTK library and I'll probably follow your lead for the program I'm attempting to get to compile. I'd offer to try to help with Audacity, but I really didn't get very far the last time I tried to build the thing.

I have built 2.8.9 and will use that but it will be a static build.. too many programs in VL-6.0 require 2.8.8 so will not upload the new one just yet.
haven't done Audacity yet maybe latter today.
Cheers! Dave

Hi Dweberkitty -- i've packaged and intstall Audacity 1.3.7 in VL-6.0 have tested several functions so far every thing looks good it's working . I never could get it working in 5.9. next question should I rebuild it with a statically linked wxGTK-2.8.9 or upload the both what do you think? Dave

Dave: Your new Audacity package is in the testing repo for VL 6.0. Thanks for building it.
As you probably already know your new wxGTK package, while appreciated, was rejected by the core developers in favor of wxPython 2.8.9.1, which includes wxGTK. The package you've already built should be just fine.
