pinnacle USB tv stick

Hi all,

I've got a very picky little problem here with what looks like nowhere on the forum to post, so I'm starting a new one. 

I have a new MB which I instzlled VL 6 on, and so far it works like a charm, with one little exception:  my TV usb stick is a Punnacle HD Pro PCTV 801e, and I can't seem to find a mountpoint for it.  If there's a way to make it automount, I don't know Linux as well as I thought I did.  I installed the drivers and firmware given on linuxtv.org, installed tv-time, and found that it is looking in /dev/video0 for the hardware.  Herein lies my difficulty. 

Does anyone out there in TV land (pun intended) know how to have the sustem auto-mount or find a mountpoint so I can edit my /etc/fstab?  I'd be really appreciative   Of course, I still have to hang on to Losedows for some old games, but I'd rather watch my tv (until I can get an honest-to-god tv) on Linux.

For the information you are looking for:

As root in a console:

lsusb       That should at least show the device is present
/var/log/messages       May show the device you can find the device by unplugging and then plug in                     the device and look again

dmesg may also help with finding more information.

I should have given more detail in my first post.  And I';ve been using Linux for years, so I have no excuse. 

I have listed under /dev, the following:

So the device is showing up after a compile and install.

so at this point I'm trying to locate a copy of Kaffeine, as I read somewhere that it handles DVB-T devices the best out of the choices available.

Any ideas?  hints?   I'm one step closer ... two steps.

In fact, ist quite simple. I'm using a "Pinnacle PCTV 2000e" usb stick

Assuming firmware "dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw" (for me) or "dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw", previously put in /lib/firmware is loaded (cf dmesg output), all that you need is to do the following:

(I assume you are, like me, in console mode after boot)
1) log as normal user (not root)
2) type "startx" to run X
3) Open a terminal
4) type a  line like the following, to run vlc:
vlc dvb-t:// :dvb-frequency=<frequency of the channel> :dvb-bandwith=<7 or 8, don't know why> :access-filter=timeshift

When vlc is running (main window):
5) Click on "Playlist"
6) Click on Show Playlist

In Playlist Window:
7) Highlight the "dvb-t" line
Right-click on this line
9) Click on "Play"

And now you can see the channel you asked for.

Nota:
In Vlc main window, if you click on "Playback"->Program: you can see the channels scanned by your device.
