hardware suggestions for a new vectorlinux machine?
« on: February 12, 2009, 05:14:33 pm »
I've been using vector linux deluxe for about 6 months now on a spare machine. I do multimedia music and editing mostly, as well as some graphics and video editing. I'm impressed enough with vector to build a new dedicated machine just for a vector workstation.

I've become quite attached to some of the music and graphics apps, as well as the ability to customize the system to my needs.

For my new system, I'd really like 3 monitors so I was wondering if any of you are using a 3 or 4 monitor video card and what is the best to choose for vector linux?

Next, I would like some suggestions for motherboard/processor combinations... I'm not sure weather to go for 64 bit or stay 32 bit with quad core? Honestly, my 800mhz system has been fine for what I do, so I don't think I want to spend too much on a very fast processor... The more ram the better I think, but so far that speed has been fine for most music and graphics applications...

If you want to be able to use more then 4 GB of RAM, you need to go 64-bit.
