rbistolfi has a new libpng package.  The previous one, converted from Slackware, wasn't fully compatible with VL.  This package should be fully functional.  For those who missed the previous announcement the new libpng is a security patch which closes multiple memory corruption vulnerabilities.  Security conscious users may want to upgrade immediately.  This package will be moved to patches as soon as we have adequate user testing and know that it really works.

Package:  libpng-1.2.35-i586-1vl60.tlz
MD5:  b8ca6d86586e9e96c810bb9b7ecffba9
Package Size:  202K
Installed Size:  750K

Sources:  http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-6.0/source/testing/libs/libpng

Code:
libpng: libpng (Portable Network Graphics library)
libpng: libpng is the official PNG reference library. It supports
libpng: almost all PNG features, is extensible, and has been
libpng: extensively tested for over 12 years.
libpng: This is an open source project to develop and maintain
libpng: the reference library for use in applications that read,
libpng: create, and manipulate PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
libpng: raster image files.
libpng:
libpng: License:  GPL
libpng: Authors:  PNG Development Group
libpng: Website:  http://libpng.sourceforge.net/

After testing this package please stop back and let us know how it works for you.

Thanks rbistolfi  & Caitlyn -- this new pacakage cured the problem I was having building a program i've wanted to build but the old libpng just would not work.

That being said inorder to get the new libpng package I had to download it from rbistolfi's  contrib it was not found by Gslapt when I tried  , and yes I have testing enabled.

It's in the repo.  Sometimes when I run the trigger script there still is a delay getting the packages out to all the mirror servers. The VL repository is load balanced across several servers.  That's probably what you ran into.
