The desktop below is from my netbook. Resolution on my screen is 1024x600, typical native netbook resolution. My custom desktop was created by using the following components: - PekWM window manager (available in the testing repository now)
- fbpanel (available in the extra repository)
- pcmanfm, used to manage the desktop
- vl-hot
I like PekWM because it is a tabbed window manager. You can have different applications in a single, tabbed window which is ideal when you are short on screen space as is typical of netbooks. In the image you'll see that I have hv3, pcmanfm, siag and urxvt running in just one window. Fluxbox does it too but PekWM is simpler and and more minimalistic so it works better as a building block of a larger desktop environment. PekWM can replace openbox in LXDE or metacity in GNOME easily. I like fbpanel because it auto-generates it's menu from the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications, just like GNOME, Xfce, and LXDE.

Actually PekWM has BOTH workspaces and tabbed windows. That makes things a bit more flexible for me.

I like that VERY MUCH Caitlyn! In fact, seems so once I'd read that you were the one "responsible" for PekWM being in the repo I just HAD to d/load it to give it a trial run. I've been using the regular wallpaper you'd placed in there ( my grandson LOVES the rock mountain BTW ) although I may turn around and use ROX for my desktop... I haven't quite decided yet. I also thought of using the fbpanel ( "GMTA" as they say. I wished my brain cell was! ) as it makes the perfect match for a lightweight desktop in my VL-5.9 Light. I appreciate the work you do here Caitlyn and what knowledge a person of your experience brings to the forum. Thank you. Amicalement/Cheers! Eyes-Only "L'Peau-Rouge"

PekWM adds itself to the sessions menu. Thanks for letting me know the fluxbox package needs rebuilding. Any WM package that doesn't add to the menu is unacceptable.

M0E-lnx:
Sweeeeeeeet!
Say, M0E, were you able install KDE 4.2 as well as KDE 3.5.10, or did you only install KDE 4.2?

I ended up with a hybrid installation... but I have no need for KDE 3.5.x stuff, so I removed all the old stuff and just installed KDE4 on it's place.
