[SOLVED] irssi not working?
« on: March 10, 2009, 08:52:26 pm »
latest irssi version (from repo), vl 6.0.

I try to run it as I normally would, it happens nothing. If pass on --help, it displays help. Otherwise, nothing.
Tried to run it with sudo and it echoes:
"Sorry, user s3kt0r is not allowed to execute '/usr/bin/irssi' as root on laptop-vector.linux.net."

Any help would be appreciated. Should I go and compile it myself?

The error is that you should be logged in as a user not as root.

Setup a normal user and give it a try.

Thanks for helping out.

Do you mean logged in the x session? gdm login? I'm logged in as a normal account, could it be that I checked the wheel box at the time of install on my user?
Even so, it shouldn't be a problem. I rebooted, because I thought I would give it a try, after installing, no luck.
Even tried with aterm. No luck again. Didn't try to compile it myself though.

It is possible that it is a bad build.

Using wheel just gives you access to some other processes but
does not make you root.

You can try to build it yourself.

Yeah, the repo build is no good for me. A quick 3-step compile from source solved it. I now have irssi working perfectly.

Thanks bigpaws, another problem solved eh.

It doesn't work here also :(
I will address a rebuild for it.
