WiFi Channels... Does wicd scann all 13 channels???
« on: March 18, 2009, 12:50:23 pm »

Hi,

I installed VL the other day and it found my PCMCIA WiFi straight-off and with a little guidance it connected to my network (let's call it NetA: a hidden SSID, WPA/PSK). I was well impressed.

But it completely fails to find my other network (let's call it NetB: also hidden SSID, WPA/PSK). I know that network is working fine as I can connect from two other (XP) machines.

My suspicion is on wicd and it's handling of 802.11 channels. NetA uses channel 1. NetB is on channel 12 or 13 [yes, they are legal in Europe].

When I looked in /etc/wicd/wireless-settings.conf it had channel = 1

My question is: Am I right in thinking wicd is only scanning channel 1?

My supplemental is: Can wicd scan a set or range of channels (e.g. 1,12 or 1-12).
If not, does anyone have a handy utility for quickly reconfiguring+restarting wicd so I can quickly switch between networks?

Many thanks,
Dave

[man wicd says 'see the man page for /etc/wicd/wireless-settings.conf'... couldn't find it...]

Code: [Select]
[man wicd says 'see the man page for /etc/wicd/wireless-settings.conf'... couldn't find it...]
It's in "man wicd-wireless-settings.conf".
Don't know about the channel question, though.
