OK so I'm using the VL 5.9 standard. I went ahead and install KDE but not the entire suite just enough packages to allow me to do my work. So the problem that I'm having right now is that it doesn't allow me to sign on to the system using my regular user profile. It does, however, allows me to sign into the system using the root account. I have deleted and recreated the my account but it still won't allow me to sign in. It appears to work and then it sends me back to the log on screen. There are no messages on the screen.
I'm able to sign on the the PC via text mode. When I sign on I type startx and it starts my window session. But when I tell it to quit or exit it doesn't work! It just stays there. No messages no nothing! Any ideas?
I wonder if this has anything to do with the KDE installation?

Which version (or parts of which version) of KDE did you install?

The following sentence is true. The previous sentence is false.

I had installed kdeadmin, kdelibs, kdebase, kdenetwork. I installed whatever version was available thru the package manager.
So, I went ahead and remove these packages; now I got the basic signon screen. I don't get the one that was originally setup or came with the system. When I sign on as either user or root it doesn't sign me into any of the windows. It signs me into a text windows as if I was requesting to use safe mode. Any how, I think I'm just going to save my stuff and delete VL and re-install it again. Hopefully I might get it to work this time.
