Here's the message I got when I updated and ran the slapt-get -u:

root:# slapt-get -u
Retrieving package data [http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.9/packages/]...Failed to download: Timeout was reached
Retrieving package data [http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.9/patches/]...Failed to download: Timeout was reached
Retrieving package data [http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.9/extra/]...Failed to download: Timeout was reached
Sources failed to download, correct sources and rerun --update

Does this make any sense?  The URL seem valid so I'm not sure why it's timed out.

Thanks again!

Looks like it could not establish a connection. It may have been a temporary problem on your side or on the side of the server.

yeap, I wonder why you can browse this forum but you get errors with osuosl. Try another mirror, or append opendns servers to your /etc/resolv.conf
We have seen dns errors with osuosl before.
Open /etc/resolv.conf as root and append to the end of the file:

Code:
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

That did it!  Everything seemed to have updated now.  Now I'll have to finish the installation of KDE. Do I just need to install the KDEbase and that will take care of everything?

Thanks for your help everyone!!

Almost, kdebase and kdelibs for the very basic KDE features.
