I've made a package tracking system for VectorLinux so you can easily track who is working on which package.

http://vlpkgs.in/request_package - For submitting package requests.

http://vlpkgs.in/pending_requests - For making sure the requests are not spam and finding links for them.

http://vlpkgs.in/track_packages - For tracking who is working on which package.

Great idea!  I know this concept has been knocked about in the forums before, but I don't know if anyone has taken action.

I hope you get some of the packagers to respond to your thread here.

Some questions I would have after going through it.
In your scenario who takes care of the pending requests (making sure they are not spam)?  All packagers or just one.
Couldn't the person making the request also have the option of giving us the url? 
It seems to me that someone who is not a forum member could make a request.  Is this good or bad?
Where are these pages hosted?

Hope that starts some discussion.  Great initiative.

I get some kind of xml parsing error message (too quick to read properly), then this:

Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

How to use them
maybe create a way for each packages to log in and check/update their assigned packages, etc.

stretchedthin: There are actually two passwords, one which gives access only to the pending requests page: pf4967e3 , and one which gives access to all pages: 7cgp3veg , so the pending requests task could be given to just some people. The person making the request could give the url but they might not have time. Yes, anyone can make a request, there's also a page specially for non-forum members to make requests: http://vlpkgs.in/ . I am hosting the pages myself, but I want them to be hosted by vectorlinux, either on their own domain or ar part of vectorlinux.com.

M0E-lnx: I thought it better not to put instructions on the pages because once you know how to use it they would just get in the way, and it doesn't take long to work out how to use it. I could make a seperate page with instructions though. As for the logging in; would anybody be allowed to register or would they need authorisation? The reason I used a password was so people can ask the head packager and he gives them the passowrd so they can use it.

EDIT: Firefox 3.0.8 gives the same message. Opera works, but pops up a window to "add a download", which I have to cancel.

I've made a change based on M0E-lnx's idea of logging in.

You are now asked for your alias (username) when you log in, and when you assign packages to yourself they are assigned to that name automatically.

I tried to set up the server to gzip the pages on the fly to make it faster and save bandwidth, but the shared server I hosted it on didn't support the configuration I needed so your browser was getting sent uncompressed content, and told it was gziped. As for the xml parsing error in seamonkey that was a bug in seamonkey which I have added a work-around for.
