Hi,
Well I was in the process of trying to migrate from XP to Ubuntu when a friend recommended VL, so here I am

VL does seem a lot faster and generally more efficient, without all the unnecessary bells and whistles, so looks like I'm going to be happy here.
Still very much in learning mode, though, and a few issues like setting up hibernation and apm to try and get to grips with.
I'm retired and usually live in northern Thailand, which is where I am now, but as an expat Brit, I'll be making my annual pilgrimage back to Blighty from next month until August.
Oh yes, that reminds me of another issue I'm going to need to sort out - how to connect my Huawei E220 dongle so I'll be able to go on-line from my VL whilst I'm over there. I remember in Ubuntu, I needed to create a new wvdial.conf to get it to work. I wonder if the same applies in VL?
But I think my most pressing problem at the moment is actually an issue with Seamonkey 1.1.14 browser. It's falling prey to aggressive annoying redirects when the local network here fails to deliver a fast response to known good URLs that I enter. I'm getting annoying unwelcome redirects to
www.sogosearch.com and to
www.ndparking.com. Some of this could be partly down to silly games being played by my local ISP's DNS, but on the other hand my XP's IE6 isn't falling prey to this problem. If there's some setting that I've missed in Seamonkey that can block this kind of unwelcome redirection, I'd very much like to know what it is.
Am I raising too many detailed questions on this intro thread? Should I be raising them individually on separate new threads? Please put me straight on this point if I should.
Meanwhile, I'll look forward to engaging with you here in this community.
