Gizmo is kind of like Skype, but much better; because Skype is a closed, proprietary system like Microsoft. Gizmo is SIP standards compliant, it's compatible with any normal SIP phone, Google Talk & and any other SIP system. http://gizmo5.com/pc/download/linux/Thanks, Lance |

I can find no dowload for the source on this site. They seem to have only precompiled .RPM or DEB packages. which we can not use for building VL packages it you find a download for the sources i'll give it a try. Dave  |

Hmmm, There is a generic tarball, but I see now it's a binary. http://gizmo5.com/pc/download/linux/ (on the bottom right) The instructions basically say; install the dependencies then just run the binary. Gizmo's dependencies are listed as: * GTK+ 2.6 or higher * GConf2 * ALSA (libasound.so.2) * libstdc++5 What are all these? I think some of them go by different names. |

I've got Gizmo installed but I'm at work right now. I can give you a step by step tomorrow, but to give you a hint I used the .deb package.

Hello again: Hope you are still trying to knock of the problems you have had with this older 5.9 soho release. Anywho, I said I had installed Gizmo with a .deb package and I would share the details. I had original done this on VL6.0 Gold, but I dusted off the 5.9.1soho disk loaded it up and it works just fine as well. Thanks all, and glad to help out.
I have used the same process with Picasa and it worked fine. I can not say anything for TrueCrypt, I just have not tried it.
Here's the rub. Inorder to work the .deb package must have been built to the linux filesystem standard. (As Vector is.) Also, this does nothing for dependencies.
If it goes wrong the only way to remove the package is to seek out and delete each file, one by one.

Thanks for the heads-up on Picasa. TrueCrypt will not work this way, it's a binary installer.  Someone will have to compile it from source & include two additional lib packages that are not in the repos. Lance |
