Connection Terminated with Dial Up

Using VL 6.0 std and Chestnut Dialer: Connection seems good (all the right noises) and connection starts but after a couple of seconds the output is something like "Connection Terminated" ... no other information.

I thought it might be authentication failing but it seemed to pass that stage. Even with a new account ( same settings as the working Win XP)  the connection is still terminated.

My biggest problem is that the machine is an hour away at a friend's place. He can only get dial-up connection. The support I give is over the phone which makes testing difficult.

Where would I find the logs?

BTW He really likes Vector Linux and everything else is working just fine, so he wants to keep VL installed.

Check /var/log

esp /var/log/messages
