Hello to all of you,

i got some driver issues with this printer. For linux doesn't support it natively, i have got to use the proprietary drivers from the lexmark website. there are offered a rpm, a deb and a tar.gz package with a graphical installer. well, i tried all three, and there pops up a lexmark graphical installation menu, and everything goes well, files are extracted until cups is checked. it states there that
"The installer has detected the operating system does not meet CUPS minimum version requirements. Please install CUPS version 1.2 or higher and run the installer again."
i forgot to mention: my cups version of course is 1.3.9.
is it because of a wrong package system? when installing, the rpm/deb/tar package is extracted containing the drivers("lexmark-inkjet-drivers.deb" eg)- should i convert it into a vector-friendly format? or an error in their script(with another linux, i had to change an installation script because it wasn't able to fetch my cpu speed).
I would appreciate any help.
I only managed to install the drivers on another pc with another linux with a lot of help.
if someone has a lot of spare time, maybe he/she could try to install these drivers(you don't need this printer to be plugged in in order to do so) Wink
Well, it isn't live-neccessary to install them, because on my girlfriends laptop i got the drivers working(ubuntu, also a lot of fuzz), but i would appreciate to be independent in this way Wink

Thanks a lot

The database at www.linuxprinting.org says that the recommended driver for your printer is the lexmark-inkjet-08-driver . It's probably in package you downloaded but you might want to check and make sure if you can. (Only the tar.gz package will work in VL by the way.)

Thomas, I haven't set up a Lexmark but with my Canon MP360 I needed two drivers, one for the printer and another for the scanner but from the look of the openprinting page for your Lexmark there is no need for this here. (or maybe they are included in the one package)

Anyway... to get the printer going is not difficult.

Sift through the expanded tar.gz deb or rpm until you find the .ppd file. Take a note of its name.
As root copy the ppd to /usr/share/cups/model/

Start configuring CUPS with http://localhost:631/admin

When you get to appropriate screen search the Lexmark section for the driver and choose it

Finish CUPS set up and it should work.

With my scanner I had to download the driver as a tar.gz, expand it and do a make  and make install.
In any case there will be a ReadMe or Install file in the package telling you how to do it.

hello, i did as you proposed.
i downloaded the driver from the lexmark site and came across the file:
"lexmark-inkjet-08-driver-1.0-1.i386.tar.gz".
in it, there was the .ppd file.
so i could find and install the printer in cups.

trying to print, there occured an error, stating, that some file were missing.
i found it in the lexmark-inkjet-08..... archive, and copied all the files
so that everything in the package was in the right directory now.
(i used debugging mode to see that every file was in the right place)
again, trying to print, the following error:
"printdriver failed"
when trying to debug i had to print a test page first, and the scheduler said it would be processing but nothing happened.
i rebooted and tried again to print, and now since 38 minutes it says "processing"...
can't even debug cause there's no error yet ;(

no idea what's wrong now...

is there a way to install the lexmark-inkjet-08....tar.gz directly via a graphical installation routine?

Thomas
