For some while now, I've been using Dropbox to backup and sync my important files.

It's a great free service, you get 2GB of free storage online.

It works like this: you create an account, install the Dropbox client, create a folder to sync and from then on, anything you put in that folder is automatically uploaded to your dropbox account. You can access your files from anywhere through the web interface.

You can find more info here: https://www.getdropbox.com/tour#1

If you decide to sign up and use the service, please use my referral link, for every person who signes up and starts using Dropbox I get 250mb's of extra space (and so does the person who signes up, so you have 2,25GB of space)  :-D (it would really help because I'm starting to run out of space on my account)

It works on Windows, Linux and Mac.

So, if you want you important files securely synced and backed up, Dropbox is one of the solutions. (of course there are alternatives like MozyHome, Skydrive, Sugarsync etc.)

(yeah I know this sounds like a shameless plug and mostly it is but I really need the extra space and people need to learn to back up their files)

Thanks!

p.s. Could this be packaged for vL? For Ubuntu I had to d/l a small package that, after installing all the dependencies, downloaded the proprietary Dropbox client. Could the initial package be... packaged?

 Wink
I asked for this some time ago but did not get much attention to this.
Nevertheless, the How-to http://wiki.getdropbox.com/TipsAndTricks/TextBasedLinuxInstall at the Dropbox page worked fine with VL Standard. I have presently my workstation, the laptop and a windows box linked to the account and they syncing fine.

What is the licensing for dropbox?   Would there be a licensing conflict if this was in the repositories?

It build's easy enough as a .tlz, I made one for dropbox and one for docutils (a dependency), nautilaus is also a dependency but already in repos.

Tommy599, I signed up using your link.  Hope that helps.

Well they just said that we should read the licensing info provided with the packages.

I've packaged dropbox for VL-6.0 standard.  Maybe some of you from this post are in a position to test it out.
