hi,

its time to introduce myself...

i am from austria and switched to linu in 2004.
after some distrohopping i landed in vl..small, fast, easy to understand (slackware style)good softwarechoice.

so, meanwhile i migrated at least 6 people to vl. and nobody regretted it so far.

my brothers box is still soho 5.8 running.(9 year old box)

i for myself switched recently to pure slackware 12.2 on my ibm t42. mainly to get a deeper understanding of slackware.
and i appreciate your choice of the underlying os..slackware..simple..fast..no nonsense distri.

usually i use vl 6 to install it on my friends box....with the configuration process it takes 2 to 3 hours to set their boxes up. thats a pretty good timeframe for me...and they just call me, if the hardware breaks down....

recently i migrated the box of my boss to vl. he was out of the house..because his old pc is now running really fast.have had xp before with at last 19 trojans on it..slowing down the box very hefty..

why we dont have linux in our company?  he asked me....
you are speaking to the wrong guy....i replied....

at the next meeting he recommended linux as an viable option for some elements in the network....at least linux will get a fair chance to make its way......not that easy to crate room in the it-heads or new options...

anyway..i will thank the vl-guys for this superb distri....nver regretted my choice.....
and thanks of course patrick volkerding and his team fo the also superb os.....

a meanwhile die hard vl-user....

greets günter

Adding KDE 3.5.10 is pretty much a matter of enabling the "testing" repository to gslapt sources, then install the desired packages. Make sure you don't get confused by the KDE4 packages, mixing the two together could be interesting.

At a minimum you need "kdebase" and "kdelibs". I think KDM comes with kdebase.
I also add K3B, Amarok, kdenetwork, kdegraphics and kdemultimedia.

Hi gharti1;

It is pretty much as nightflyer says and you will have no trouble with it, but if you want to make it easy for your friends here is some screencasts you can point them to.

Installing the KDE 3.5.10 desktop environment on VectorLinux 6.0 Standard.
Installing the Gnome desktop environment on VectorLinux 6.0 Standard
Installing the KDE4 desktop environment on VectorLinux 6.0 Standard
