What program for VL6 can handle *.pps? I believe that might be PowerPoint. I occasionally get email attachments and my Win98s can't handle it either. Thanks.

I think openoffice can manage them.
Btw, I never really knew the difference between pps and ppt...

yes, openoffice Impress can handle .pps files, and there is difference between ppt and pps for openoffice, but Powepoint will autoplay a slide if is a pps file and will open it in editor mode if is a ppt file

Ummm! I didn't really want to install something so big. Hopefully, 2740312 bytes free are enough and still leave room for other things.

that is weird i just checked and jre is in the repos, in fact i just found that it is already installed by default in VL6 so you only have to run the next command: java -jar tonicpoint-1.4.jar what version of VL are you using?

Thank you again. "java -jar tonicpoint-1.4.jar" worked and brought up a TonicPoint viewer. It didn't add anything to Menu so I'll have to download the attachments so that it can open them.
Using 6.0 Gold. It is working a lot better now that I've shut off a computer that was tearing up my whole network.

I have tried this and it worked:
open thunar and find any .pps file on your hard drive then:
Right click --> Properties --> General --> open with --> select another program --> use customized command --> java -jar /home/josue/Desktop/tonicpoint-1.4.jar --> click ok
substitute "/home/josue/Desktop/tonicpoint-1.4.jar" with the path where you have your tonicpoint file.
now you shoul be able to open any .pps file just by clicking (or double clicking) on it on your file manager an your browser should give you an option to open your attachements with java.
EDIT: I don't know if that is how the options are called since I have my system fully localized to the language of my country, but I hope you get the idea.

java -jar /home/bruce/share/Downloads/PowerPoint/tonicpoint-1.4.jar Terminal: Opens TonicPoint and then I have to open the file on the disk. Seamonky: Can't find "java -jar /home/bruce/share/Downloads/PowerPoint/tonicpoint-1.4.jar". Thunar: is NOT saved.

you're right it worked for me with opera and firefox, but will not work with seamonkey, so i guess you will have to download the attachements to disk, but I can open the .pps files just by clicking on them in thunar can't figure out why you can't.

Just received another computer, HP Pavilion PII 400 with 384 MB: first attempt to install VL6.0 Gold failed - will try again.
Usually, I just deleted the emails with these attachments but this one came from my brother: a bunch of airplane pictures.
