How does one setup a program to run at preset times, like at in W$.  I find that I have to restart linux periodically, not sure that it is more often than once a week, due to memory leaks.

I had tried earlier with Grandfather Clock that needed to chime every quarter hour.  I tried crontab according to the man pages but I don't know where it saved it. /etc/cron.monthly and .weekly are empty and it wasn't in .daily or .hourly

Also like to start streaming audio at a specified time like a clock radio.

Compaq DeskPro PIII 500MHz 384MB, VL6.0 Gold, xfce.
Code:
bruce:$ free
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:        380628     224200     156428          0      11696     123024
-/+ buffers/cache:      89480     291148
Swap:       514040          0     514040
Hmmm! It appears this has 384MB!

Thanks nightflier.  It was there in a file named Bruce
Code:
0,15,30,45 * * * * /home/bruce/share/Downloads/grandfatherclock/grandfatherclock -q
Now, how do I get it to run?

Opps!  I discovered that there was a period instead of a slash between bruce and share.  Waiting to see if this fixed it...no.  Tried the cl in terminal - no good - added bin between the two grandfatherclocks.  Now it works in terminal.  Wait another 11:30 minutes to see... No! it didn't chime on the quarter hour.

Edit:  30 minutes later, it chimed 3/4 hour!  Now to try the other things I want/need.

If any one is interested, here is what I have in /var/spool/cron/crontabs/bruce
Code:
#restart every Saturday at 10:00 AM
0 10 * * sat vsuper shutdown -r now
# update time daily at 3:10 AM
10 3 * * * vsuper ntpdate -b pool.ntp.org
# Chimes every quarter hour from 5 AM through 21:45 Tuesday through Thursday
0,15,30,45 5-21 * * tue-thu /home/bruce/share/Downloads/grandfatherclock/bin/grandfatherclock -q
# same from four o'clock on Friday
0,15,30,45 4-21 * * fri /home/bruce/share/Downloads/grandfatherclock/bin/grandfatherclock -q
# same from seven o'clock on Monday
0,15,30,45 7-21 * * mon /home/bruce/share/Downloads/grandfatherclock/bin/grandfatherclock -q
The first two cls were tested in terminal.  The third line (for every day) is working.

Now to see if I can get a streaming audio to work as well as allow other workstations to sync from this one.
