Creating bootable floppies for V. Linux
« on: June 26, 2009, 11:02:05 am »
How do I create the two floppy disks mentioned in the Vector Linux standard distro for a laptop that refuses to boot from the cd/dvd optical drive, despite making it the priority device in the bios? In the instructions I get to the prompt asking for the path and file name only to be told it cannot find path/filename.

For 1st disk.
These are the file names in question; Enter source file name: D:\install\floppy\bare.i

The file bare.i does not show even when I do a dir on those folders.

For 2nd disk.

Enter source file name: D:\install\floppy\rootdisk.img

This path is invalid too, any help in this matter would be appreciated,

Daisymay.

The documents for boot floppies in Standard are getting a little out of date.

If you download VL6 Light, you can find image files for this purpose on that ISO.
Look in [cdrom]/install/floppy, find the files vlinst-1.img through vlinst-5.img.
Detailed instructions can be found in:
[cdrom]/doc/manuals/vl6_installation_guide_en.html#floppy_install

I would be interested in feedback about how this works for you.
